Seminar: Travellers in Ottoman Lands: The Balkans, Anatolia and Beyond

This is an opportunity to combine a fascinating event of lectures and workshop discussions with a visit to the region. On Saturday 27 August 2022 there is an optional trip to the historic city of Mostar with its important landmarks on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Keynote Speakers

Jason Goodwin, historian and bestselling author of a series of novels set in the Ottoman Empire, the acclaimed Lords of the Horizons: A History of the Ottoman Empire (Vintage 1999), and several non-fiction works, including the award-winning travelogue through Eastern Europe On Foot to the Golden Horn: A Walk to Istanbul (Chatto & Windus 1993).

Dr Dženita Karić, postdoctoral researcher at the Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, specialising in Muslim pilgrimage, and author of Bosnian Hajj Literature: Multiple Paths to the Holy (forthcoming, EUP 2022).
